I had a meeting with a top person somewhere sensitive in the government yesterday and for some dumbass reason I lost all my reasoning and spilled all the beans.
Among the beans were real rotten ones like my extremely low sense of allegience to this state/kingdom and how I can't stomach anymore of the corruption eating into its bones.
I spoke to him at length about justice and injustice, about how the young - the main asset of the future - are disillusioned and how democracy is not the democracy it should be. I went on and on about all things that hurt and embarrass in this country, siting specific examples and naming names. I put my neck out and all he did was nod and say: I am very proud to be a Bahraini!
It was like I wasted my breath. I made one new enemy - and an influential person to say the least.
What was he proud about: the level of injustice, or double-standards, or discrimination and prejudice? Is he happy with the level of human rights abuses and the fact that hundreds of people will soon be rallying on the streets waving bread and throwing rotten eggs and tomatoes in their call for a minimum standard of living? Is he proud that terrorists go unpunished (see law 56)? Is he happy that people here have no respect for policemen, law makers and the judiciary? Is he thrilled that human rights abuses still take place in Wonderland? And most important, has he ever felt wronged by the system he serves?
I don't know what he is proud about.. but I sure ain't proud about all these atrocities being committed against my people everyday.
To end this on a lighter note, I got this on my e-mail last night. I will share it with you, if the Information Ministry has no objections:
A man dies & goes to hell.
There he finds that there is a different hell for each country and decides he'll pick the least painful tospend his eternity. He goes to the Germany hell & asks, "What do they do here?"
He is told "first they put you in an electric chair for an hour. Then they lay you on a bed of nails for another hour. Then the German devil comes in and whips you for the rest of the day".
The man does not like the sound of that at all so he moves on.
He checks out the USA hell as well as the Russian hell and manymore. He discovers that they are all similarto the German hell.
Then he comes to the Bahrain hell and finds that there is a long line of people waiting to get in...Amazed, he asks, "What do they do here?"
He is told "first they put you in an electric chair for an hour, then they lay you on a bed of nails for another hour. The Bahrain devil comes in & whips you for the rest of the day.
"But that is exactly the same as all the other hells why are there so many people waiting to get in?" asks the man.
"Because there is never any garanteed supply of electricity so the electric chair is off most of the time. The nails were paid for but were never supplied, so the bed is comfortable to sleep on. And the Bahraini devil used to be a civil servant, so he comes in, signs his time sheet and goes back home for private business!!"

SBG: You worry me. Why do you have to do this? Fair enough, speaking your mind to support a just cause is a valid reason, but not in Bahrain, and not on your own.
It seems to me that there was this burst of emotions when you let your heart out. To some (especially those higher places), it can be interpreted like a traitor coming out of the closet!
I don't know how your mind operates, but I sure do pray that you plan things before jumping in.
Please play it wise and safe. I hope all goes well.
Are you sure you're not a redhead? I agree with odd a. Speaking your mind is one thing, but putting your head in the lion's mouth is another. Keep your head on your shoulders for now.
Speaking your mind to a government official is one thing. Publishing the conversation for public consumption, girl, now that takes some minerals I tell you!
So do you have an ace in the hole? Or am I going to have to get my hands on some political asylum paperwork on your behalf?
I am sorry I am this silly today.
I don't what's wrong but I have had it. What will they do to me: nothing much for a few reasons.
I am not a threat. I have no affiliations. I am not a member of any illegal organisation. I don't believe in mob-style changes.. and most important, I am silly.
I am silly and I retain my right to be silly. No governement will stop me from exercising this right ;)
